Remember How to Spell German Shepherds Right

by Maria Eskitama

I was surprised to learn that nearly 1 in any 3 folks spell the word German Shepherd incorrectly, spelling them German Shepards instead. I am shocked that this word is so commonly misspelled, & I am even more amazed to learn that I write it this way for so many years.

I loathe spelling words wrong & I always seek to avert it. I’m always careful to make sure that I’m exact with my spelling, although like any human being, sometimes I simply mess up. The great thing is that I have an effortless way to recall how to properly spell this breed of dog correctly.

Follow my basic method here and you will consistently recall that it is not German Shepards, rather shepherds.

Remember back to why this kind of dog was bred and maybe you’ll quickly figure this out. The German Shepherd was bred as a labor canine, & it was just in the late 1890s that this dog came to life.

Folks in Germany desired a canine to help herd sheep. Remember the words herd and sheep this time, & then reverse them. You don’t think of the German Shepards (I am kidding) now as sheep herding canines, as they are normally used by police to combat crime, in airports to find substances, & in other situations that depend on the dog’s great sense of smell.

This, however, is why they had been bred, & remembering this ought to make it a lot easier to spell the word accurately.

As long as you try to keep this in mind every time you write or type out the word, I suppose you certainly will get it correctly from here. Do not feel too badly regarding it because 1 in three individuals do write it incorrectly.

I hope this has been valuable. Here’s to some spelling successes down the line when it comes to this fantastic type of canine.
