Deutscher Schferhund, its original name, literally translates to German Shepherd Dog. Its original purpose was to help shepherds guide herds and protect sheep, hence it was given that name. Thats not all though: its a loving member of the family, a great herder and a first-class dog show competitor.

It is one of the most popular selections for use as a working dog, being especially well known for helping the police by tracking down criminals, guarding and holding suspects, and patrolling risky areas. They are also indispensable in search and rescue, cadaver searching and narcotics and explosives detection, to name just a few. This is because of their sharp sense of smell and ability to work even in a distracting environment, such as airports or shopping malls.

This dogs expression is intelligent, keen and composed, and his coat comes in a wide variety of colors, the most common combinations being tan and black, or red and black. They have a noble, dense outer coat, with a thick undercoat, and a bushy tail that reaches to the hock. Giving off an impression of subtle power and solidity, and being one of the most intelligent, hardworking and agile dogs in the world, the German Shepherd is a wise choice to make when choosing to adopt a pet.

White Shepherds: The True Companion Dog

White German Shepherd dogs are well known for their distinctive characteristic as being fearless and direct. They are also alert and eager to provide any assistance whenever needed. In whatever circumstance, they are the kind of breed that is always associated with being friendly.

It was in the year 1917 that the first trace of the White German Shepherd breed that was registered in the American Kennel Club. Although the said father of all the German Shepherds existed in the later part of 1890s, the pure white strain breed emerged later. They were said to be imported by Anne Tracy into the United States.

Because of the white color coat, these dogs were mistakenly associated as Albinos. This was the very reason why they were not qualified to compete in any dog show. But later, these breed that was also known as the American-Canadian White Shepherd was recognized in America.

The White German Shepherd dogs are not albinos. Like any ordinary German Shepherd dogs, they have normal features such as the colored eyes, eyelids, nose and the pads. What makes them unique is the remarkable white coat when compared with the traditional German Shepherds.

Studies revealed that the white code found in the genes of the White German Shepherd dog is a fundamental part of the entire conformation of its breed color. They also found out that it was never related to albinism or any other abnormalities. The white color is perfectly normal as opposed to what the breeders have feared.

The White Shepherd shares many common features with the ordinary German Shepherd dogs. The only difference is the white coat color which is unique among the breed. However, the white color is not associated with being an albino.

Aside from being active, these dogs also posses a very playful personality. Depending on the dog and the way it was raised, they can be very intelligent and are able to perform various tricks. Owners need not worry about training the White Shepherds since they are very respectful and can socialize with the outside world.

White German Shepherd: The Companion Dog

The negative exaggerations associated with this breed were never proven and that they can become the best companion dog. If given the exact and proper care, they can live longer to about 14 years.
