by Craig Vic

Do you feel like your dog is the “boss” and you are just there for the sake of being there? I am certain that you are not the only one. If your dog makes you feel helpless because of disobeying you then you need some first rate dog training tips and this is the right path to take to make the relationship between you and your dog more rewarding.

Some children take longer to obey and the same goes for dogs. Dogs that are bred for hunting purposes and dogs bred for herding even though very intelligent may be a little harder to train to live inside. Just remember most dogs will get away with what you let them.

If a dog demands control by the way he is acting or he is in charge of a specific area of the home and being dominant, the truth is that we have allowed the dog to be this way. Something that dogs notice immediately, since they are pack animals is their place in their surroundings. Within a pack, someone has to be the boss or “alpha dog”.

If you don’t take this “alpha” position, then your dog will take over this position. Even when you make an attempt to teach your dog it is necessary that you show confidence and body language that definitely lets your dog know that you are the boss, or your dog won’t think of you this way.

Under no means should you become abusive or aggressive with your dog, but you do need to follow a few training tips which will allow you to successfully correct your pets behavior. These tips may seem awkward at first, but they will work if you follow them. Your pet will become an enjoyable companion and not an aggressive beast. Firstly, during training time, you must use a proper tone of voice.

When you start the training process the first thing to remember is to keep a firm (again not angry) tone of voice and keep your voice in the neutral range. Make sure your not yelling and on the other end of the spectrum make sure your not using your “baby” voice either. This lets the dog know that you are the “Alpha” and not vice versa. The dog should follow your lead meaning you do something first and then he follows you.

Coming in the house, going out of the house, or strolling in the middle of two parked cars should always be done by you first and your dog has to walk in back of you all the time. Mealtime should be an activity that you can use to show you are in charge - you are the first one to eat, and after this you dog eats. You should begin playing with your dog first as well as do anything else first. This won’t be easy in the beginning but it will assist you to have a more enjoyable time with your dog in the future.

Stop Dog Barking Once And For All

by Craig Vic

This can be the most maddening thing for those that have canines: A dog that insists on barking constantly. All you want is some quiet time, but your dog could be less concerned about what you want!

It is important to remember that a dog does not always understand a human’s wants and needs, so it is important to try and understand why the dog is barking.

Pay careful attention to the barking behavior. Can you identify a trigger? Can you spot something that is obviously bothering him, or is it something harder to see? Most barking is caused when a dog spots a stranger approaching or standing nearby.

Dogs are territorial by nature, so they bark as a warning to safeguard their own space.

Try to be prepared for these moments when the dog feels intruded upon. For example, if the neighbor and his loud truck come home from work at the same time every day.

You should have some idea of when your mailman delivers the mail everyday. Around that time, put a leash on your dog. When you start to see the mail car give a little tug on the leash, before he even gets a chance to bark. It’s a nice jolt to the system.

Even better, if you are outside, is to have a little water pistol handy. If you know what triggers your dogs bark, squirt him with water before he gets a chance to bark. He’ll soon figure out there are consequences for the barking.

Don’t forget to also reward your dog when he behaves. A nice treat and a lot of belly rubs when he does not bark show that he is doing the right thing.

Getting A Dog To Stop Barking

by Craig Vic

This can be the most maddening thing for those that have canines: A dog that insists on barking constantly. All you want is some quiet time, but your dog could be less concerned about what you want!

Well - it’s not like the dog is barking on purpose just to upset you. You’ve got to start becoming more aware of the “dog’s barking trends”.

Pay attention to when, where, and at what the dog is barking. Usually, there is an obvious reason- an unfamiliar smell, person, or sounds are examples.

Usually, the dog is trying to protect his and, thus your, property.

The most critical part of stopping the dog’s barking is to get informed. Identify the reason behind the barking and you can stop it before it starts. If the dog always goes nuts when the mailman comes, be ready for it.

Most mailmen deliver mail around the same time each day. Leash your dog when it gets to be that time of day. As the mail truck approaches, give a slight pull on the leash to let your dog know that you will not tolerate his barking behavior today. That will reinforce your message physically.

Even better, if you are outside, is to have a little water pistol handy. If you know what triggers your dogs bark, squirt him with water before he gets a chance to bark. He’ll soon figure out there are consequences for the barking.

Also this doesn’t mean anything if you don’t reward him for when he doesn’t bark. They need both positive and negative reinforcement.
