Do you want a therapy dog for your own?

If you have been on hospitals and you have seen therapy dogs, then you might be curious with what they do. By definition, a therapy dog is a pet dog that is allowed and certified to visit children with illnesses in some hospitals and facilities. They are owned by facilities and families that are certified by the health authorities. They are neither approved nor denied of approval but they need to be certified good and healthy by health authorities. If you want to train a therapy dog now that you know what it does, here are some tips to keep in mind.

The first thing that you have to remember is to properly train your dog’s manners. Ensure that he or she is temperament, patient, and to ensure that he or she is in proper health. This way you can get certification for your dog breed at the most convenient way possible,

Certification is hard to get. First, keep in mind that dogs like Pit Bulls, German Shepherds, and Rottweiler breeds and Dobermans are not accepted to be considered as a therapy dog. Further, when you are ready to get your dog certified, ensure that you have checked the health of your dog breed. A temporary flu will be a permanent damage to your dog’s therapy career.

Third, when you are ready to get certified. You must be able to get the CGC (Canine Good Citizen) certificate for him or her that you would need to present to hospital authorities.

Finally, when all is in place and your dog is now a certified therapy dog, make sure that you consult the right hospitals and you get there the right time to help save lives and make children happy. This way, your therapy dog will not just bring joy to your household, but joy to others as well.

Qualities You Need for Dog Training

If you want to personally train your dog and you want to make sure that you are the best, there are three basic skills that you need to master and train yourself in before you are ready to train any dog. These three basic characteristics are not always seen in people and needs some time to get used to. We can call these characteristics as P.E.T.

P is for Patience. As a dog owner, you should already have patience. With patience, you should always be in your best mood in order for you to properly handle your pet dog. It is important that you give your pet dog positive and not negative reinforcement as a dog acts just like children. When you teach them something new, you must be very patient and you should always keep your dog feeling good so that he will not get petrified and he would want to really learn.

E stands for Engagement. You should make sure that you engage your dog in the dog training. Also, make sure that there will be nothing that will distract you in training your pet dog while you are both in the training method. Here, you should both not be able to notice distractions while at your dog training place and time.

T stands for training. One last thing to make sure that you are able to train your dog well is that you should train yourself with the right amount of training, both basic and advanced, to make sure that you are all set up for proper dog training. This way, you are a good, certified, and a proper dog trainer.

Finally, you should make sure that you take care of your pet dog the best way that you can through proper training of yourself as well. After all, we would not want your dog training to be like a blind leading another blind.

Joys of Being a Dog Owner

Most people think of their pet dog in its typically upbeat mood when he or she greets you effusively after you have had a difficult day at the office. Your dog is probably aware of your mood and immediately tries to cheer you up by bringing you your slippers or doing little tricks.

It is possible that you will feel a little put out by being met so effusively. However, pets have a way of tugging at your heart strings. Soon you pat your dog and feel the tension draining way from your body. Perhaps you will take your dog for a walk, which is always much appreciated by dog and owner.

If you have had your dog from the time he or she was six weeks old and just weaned from the mother, you know that your pet is part of your family. You have seen him or her grow from a tiny, playful puppy full of antics and mischief into a mature, intelligent animal.

Many dogs cannot bear to have their owners out of sight and follow them from room to room in the house. If you are working on your computer, your dog would prefer to have a nap in the corner than go outside. If you go to the kitchen, for instance, the dog will probably follow you out of curiosity.

Dogs are excellent companions who may pay more attention to you than your spouse or other family members. Their love is unconditional, so if you are impatient and speak sternly, they will not hold it against you.

No matter how much you appreciate your dog, you might not be in favor of your dog sharing your bedroom. There are plenty of people who are only too happy to have their dog sleep in their bedrooms, or even on the foot of their beds. They feel safe having a dog present throughout the night.

If you think you are allergic to dogs, this is no longer an obstacle to owning one. There are short haired breeds produced by expert breeders that are suitable. These dogs produce very little dander, the fine skin flakes that fall from dogs.

Older dogs will need to be prepared if you will be bringing a baby home before long. They have been your “baby” until now, and it takes some adjusting for them, but before long, your dog will be protecting your baby just as it watches out for you.

Ladies, it is helpful to have your husband or a friend bring home an article of the baby’s clothing while you are in the hospital after his or her birth. Allow the dog to smell the baby’s scent and become accustomed to it for an easier transition.

In a matter of month your baby will be a toddler, and will probably climb all over the family dogs, pulling ears and tails and generally testing your dogs’ patience. Show you dogs lots of love and they will show the same consideration for your toddler.

It is no secret that dogs love to travel in cars with their heads hanging out of the window to catch the breeze. A trip down to the store is tantamount to heaven for the average family dog.

If you begin to train your dog while it is still very young, you will be able to teach it that good manners are required. Your dog truly wants to please you, so this will be the stimulus for learning proper manners.

There is nothing more irritating that dogs that jump up at people and slobber on them, or dogs that will not sit and stay, or dogs that continue to bark even when told to keep quiet. Use your natural authority to instruct your dog. It will respect you for doing so.
